RR Submission: Coby

Coby ... much loved and much missed

Coby became ill and has gone to the Rainbow Bridge, but not for lack of care (including from regular and ER vets).

Coby's human slave adopted him from her local humane society. The human slave created a new slave ... her Mom. (It's kinda' like zombies ... except instead of biting someone to make more zombies, all you have to do is introduce your bun to another human and they are smitten.) Mom slave loved him, too (giving their St. Bernard some competition in the pet department).

Mom slave thinks this picture is Coby's impression of a llama. I just think he was a really cute bunny.

This human slave will be adopting a new bunny ... hopefully, sometime soon. Good luck!
(Another thought: Think about adopting a bonded pair!)

Bunny - too funny!

Soccer Bunny?

Nah, not so much.

Sports? Exercise?
Meh!
Well, he might be a bunny backstop, if Lucy and Ethel roll the ball against him.
He is preserving his energy for when there may be a chance for treats.

Flounder bunny?

Bunya's repose the other day brought to mind a flounder ...

We will watch carefully to see if his eyes start to migrate to one side of his head.

Couch buntatoes

Not sure what fascinated Lucy and Ethel about the couch this particular afternoon. Ethel is the most frequent visitor, but I think that's because she likes the "high ground".

Lucy was checking behind the cushions, for what ... who knows. Dropped treats maybe.

Ethel gets a little higher by climbing on a pillow.

Lucy explaining to pillow bunny that she is the alpha bunny.

Once Ethel jumped off, Lucy looked like she wanted to have a word with the bunny on the bunny-whipped  pillow. You can see that they are shedding (you have bunnies - what else is new?). Lucy's butt has all the little tufts sticking out (part porcupine). Happily, they are gone now. We managed to catch her Sunday morning for a grooming. Of course, grooming is a temporary thing at best, but for a little while at least, she'll look like her usual beautiful Dutch self.

Bunny Groom-fest

As postulated many times within this blog, Bunya may be the world's luckiest bunny. Or at least, one of them.

This clip starts off with the girls grooming Bunya. There's a "cut" jump, a deleted portion, where Ethel got distracted for a little bit and was watching The Big Bang Theory on TBS. So she disappears and it starts again as she rejoins the group.

In the beginning and again later, Bunya is just in such bunny heaven that you can see his closed eye between the girls and he is just licking the rug and pipe. It's like he wants to reciprocate but he's too relaxed to lift and aim his head. (He also does that same licking response thing if you scratch his butt, at the spot right above the base of his tail.)

At the point Ethel rejoins, Lucy is practically giving Bunya a back massage. Then he starts licking Ethel and Ethel starts licking Lucy.  Whew ... just see for yourself...

Nothin' says lovin' like - bonded bunnies!

Tunnel bunny at dinner time

Came home and fed the bunnies. That starts with their crumbles. Even though they have two food dishes, they often all hover over the same one. Tonight, in part by how they rearrange their pen "furniture" during the day, Lucy ended up looking like something carrying her tunnel home on her back, a combination inch-worm-bunny and hermit-crab-bunny.

And she stayed there even after the greens were placed on the table.

Not a bunny lawn ornament

Always nice to come across our house bunnies' relatives in the wild ...

If you come across wild bunnies, the best thing to do most often is - nothing. Just enjoy them but do not try to "rescue" them. Read more about it on the House Rabbit Society's website, specifically here.

Bunny sister love

Well, if they are not grooming each other the whole time, when they groom themselves, the close proximity seems to give the other bunny sufficient satisfaction that they can fool themselves into thinking they are being groomed. In any case, they know they are loved.

Bunny mischief?

This just looks like somebunnies are up to no good ...

Said mischief is evidenced by the fact that about half the piping around the seat cushion has been nibbled away by person or persons (or bunnies) unknown.

House Rabbit Journal

Join the House Rabbit Society and you get the House Rabbit Journal. I wasn't expecting this, so it was a nice treat to get in the mail. Be sure to join your local HRS chapter, too.

In addition, back issues of the Journal are available online at http://www.rabbit.org/journal/index.html.

If you are thinking of getting a rabbit or already have rabbit(s), explore the HRS website. From their home page, there are links to a bunch (ahem ... bunny carrot pun) of articles under the topics of Care, Behavior and Health.

Bunny as entertainment

For my money, there's no better bang for your entertainment buck than watching bunnies eat, especially their greens...

Shortened from over 4 minutes to about 40 seconds. You may want to watch more than once to focus on each of them (well, okay, maybe that's just me).

Shown in real-time (no slo-mo or speed-up).

Bunya's nomming ear down flat, like if he makes himself more aerodynamic, he'll be able to eat faster and get more greens. Silly rabbit ...

Many times, the greens in another bunny's mouth have much greater appeal than what's left on the plate. Then they snatch it out of each other's mouth. Not in this clip, but we'll keep trying to catch that on video, too.

Bunya in the chew tunnel

Earlier, Ethel demonstrated gnawing on the chew tunnel from the outside (here).

It's like how different people eat their Reese's Peanut Butter cups. In this clip, Bunya chews the tunnel from the inside.

I love is the way bunnies chew. They go at it like little motors, but partly side-to-side. You can see the slightly bemused and mischievous expression that inspired some cartoonist to make Bugs Bunny's tag line: "Nyaaaah, What's up, Doc?" That cartoonist must have seriously studied real rabbits before beginning to draw the character.

RR Submission: Callie

Look what the Kat* dragged in ...

Callie: Oh, my aching head ...
Could you please bring me some more aspirin?
And from now on, we are setting a 3 martini limit.

Actually, Callie is demonstrating one of the ways to keep a bunny cool: frozen plastic bottles of water.

As Kat writes: She definitely likes her ice bottles...moves them to wherever her mood dictates and then flops over to enjoy her efforts. [Which is what she's really demonstrating above.]

And as Kat posted previously: I use old 2-liter Coke** bottles, fill them up with water and freeze them; then put them in the bunny pen for my furballs to lean up against. Callie loves to roll hers around as she changes locations and often can be found lying her head on the sweating bottle or lounging with her feet under it.
I keep 4-6 bottles rotating in and out of the freezer so the bunz always have something chilly and wet to lean against.

Here are some prior posts about cool bunnies:
Bunny care - Stay cool
Bunny care - Water and temperature

Here's cutie Callie without a faux hangover:

Callie the first time she went outside -
She wasn't quite sure what to make of the big outdoors,
but eventually got to the point that she came out of her carrier for a little sunshine.
Check out Kat's photography here (yes, yes, it includes bunnies, including more pictures of Callie).

* Apologies, Kat, I couldn't resist.
** May seem like a product placement plug, but this is from Kat's original post and, after all, this is Atlanta, people, Coca-Cola's home, so it's okay by us.

Bunny masseur

One function of a bunny's human slave is massage.

Bunya [in a Thurston Howell III nasal intonation]:
Ummmm ... okay, so maybe you do have some small advantage
with those opposable thumb thingies.
You may continue.
Another satisfied bunny customer.

Shhhhh ...

Bunny sleeping ...
Must be tuckered out from a day full of binkies, NASbunnies, hay processing and grooming.

Ethel napping after a full body, rollover flop

They are very light sleepers ...

So, just be very, very quiet. And absorb the cuteness.

RR Submission: Dusty Buns

Bluebell's humans lost their adorable companion of 10 years ...
but meet his lucky successor, Dusty!

Dusty Buns (must have sat in some baby powder)

You may "SQUEEE!" at will.

This bunny writes: My name is Dusty, and I love my new humans. They learned all about bunny love from their former bun, Bluebell, and adopted me from Rabbit Rescue, a north Texas rabbit rescue center.

Way to go Bunny slaves!

Bunny grooming

During the usual Sunday morning groom-fest, Bunya decided to stand. At this time, the furminator is being used on his back ... the indignities he must suffer.

Here, he makes his plea to you, his audience, to please get him out of this predicament, preferably with treats such that he may console himself (papaya welcome).

As stated previously, Bunya is the most prolific shedder. You can see the curve that migrates up his face as the shed progresses. Almost looks like he has a little Snidely Whiplash mustache.

Speaking of bunny chew toys

Found this chew toy at the GHRS Hop Shop. They have really been loving it. By the time you read this, there is a lot less of this tunnel than is shown here. The video show Ethel bossing it around.

In an earlier incarnation of the tunnel (i.e., there's more of it),
Lucy chews to get the party started.

Bunny breeds

Cute? Or cute?

Breed: Havana         Origin: Netherlands
I say: Cute!

Anyway, came across this cute picture in a Wikipedia chart of bunny breeds. Not all the breeds have pictures, but there are lots of cute and interesting ones along with a few key facts, like weight, fur and ear type, and colors. There are a LOT of bunny breeds; many in the list link to more complete articles about the specific breed.

How accurate? [Shoulder Shrug]
Fun and interesting? Uh, yeah.

Bunya's big chew toy

The tail end of a video trying to catch Ethel speeding around the room focused on Bunya. He was chewing on some cardboard, a big tube we have for them. We try to keep it on top of the rug fringe, to protect it and give them an alternative chew toy in the same vicinity.

So, this is just Bunya chewing, undaunted by the size of his task. All of them chew on it, all along it; Bunya just happened to look like he was going to work his way down the tube more methodically.

BTW, the tube was from a rug we purchased, the one we got to go under their pen. If you have bunnies, you are always on the lookout for good cardboard (although we did have to wipe it down - very dusty).

Ethel's Big Binky

Ethel had started a NASBunny (or Buntona 500). By the time I got the video going, she was, of course, frozen in place. I kept the camera on while she started to groom herself ... then she jumped a big binky, followed  by a smaller binky, and off she zoomed.

The view framing was not quite sufficient for this Olympics-inspired high jump...

One morning on the fireplace ...

As you know if you are a Regular Rabbit Ramblings Reader (RRRR), Sunday morning is typically the complete clean-out of the pen. Often, the bunnies will go lounge on the cool bricks of the fireplace while they await their maids' completion of their tasks (maids = human slaves). Well, Lucy will go there first and then she gets company.

The pen is emptied, including their long white tunnel. For whatever reason, we lean it up against the fireplace where it tilts down to the carpet at about a 15 to 20-ish degree angle.

Every Sunday, Lucy tried to scamper UP the tunnel to the fireplace. Sometimes, we pick up the end she goes in so she can have a level or downhill run to the fireplace. Sometimes, we just let her try; she gets a lot of exercise and eventually slides back out, butt first. Amuses us to no end.

Ethel decided to show Lucy how she should approach this goal ...

Lucy settles on the fireplace and Bunya joins her shortly thereafter.

Ethel follows to find out what everyone is doing and
to compliment Bunya that he no longer has that embarrassing poopy butt.

Ethel to Lucy: Hey, Lucy, why don't you try it this way?!?

Ethel (sliding DOWNhill ... Duh, Lucy): Wheeeeee!!!

Ethel: That was fun! They ought to make that a ride at Six Flags!

Bunnies watch the Olympics

There is little doubt in our minds that the bunnies will chill out and watch some TV with us. And when it's something he really likes and he does not want the pen fence in the way, Bunya will come flop outside for a better view.

Bunya: Hey, Humans - can we get some snacks here???

Well, the Olympics qualified for such prime viewing, in his estimation. You can see him in the lower right corner, clearly watching TV. "Clearly" in this context can also mean: no fence in the way.

Favorite bunny Olympic events?
Track & Field, specifically:
High jump
Long jump
100 meter dash
Hurdles

The bunnies also want to petition to add "Binkies" to the Track & Field events.

Ethel Snuggle Bunny

This is how humans can lower their blood pressure ...

Hey, where'd the hand go - you weren't finished, were you?
Certainly not!

Maybe it lowers bunny blood pressure, too.

Striking a bunny pose

Just Bunya, lounging around the pen ...

Looks like he's waiting for Ethel to bring him his pipe and slippers.
It was a long, hard day at the hay box. *Sigh* ... what a rat bunny race.
And Lucy, where's his martini?

30 pictures ... but only one with the RR bunnies!

Thanks to the RR Roving Reporter who spotted this one on buzzfeed:
30 Pictures That Everybody Wants To Share With Their Friends

She was just scrolling down the page and spotted a new poster that had been made from our trio ...

If you follow the buzzfeed link above, it's picture #18.
Buzzfeed sourced it to memebase, but who knows where before that?

Found the same captioned picture here, too.
