Happy New Year! (and some bunny care and human care)

New Year's reminder from the humans:
Bunnies do NOT like fireworks.
It stresses them just like other sudden and/or loud noises.

If your bunny's neighborhood is firecracker noisy, keep the buns cool and quiet.
Close the windows and doors.

If needed to "cover" firecracker noise, play music - peaceful, easy listening (not loud).
Think elevator music. No hair bands or hare bands. Stay away from 1812 Overture.
Your TV service might even have a suitable channel in its lineup - you just never tune to those channels.

If you do not already have boxes for them to play on and in, get some plain cardboard boxes (not slick or a lot of ink/color; no staples, labels or tape). Cut at least two openings in each box big enough for your bunny to get in and out ... they can hide in them, to further mute the noise and feel a little safer.

Keep them company and reassure them that everything's okay. Pet them if they are the petting kind of bunnies. Have a couple of healthy treats handy (Bunya told me to say that).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi there. Bunya here.
First, Lucy & Ethel and I want to wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Please be careful in your celebrations.
If you drink, don't drive.
We don't have anything against moderate imbibing ... the humans don't know it but we always ferment a little carrot juice to celebrate, too. But we are staying home to celebrate. We hate cars.
Even if you don't drink, be careful driving out there, because not everyone is as smart as you.
Don't text while driving either. Just concentrate.
Also, be kind to each other next year. And beyond.
Be kind to all pets and animals, too. (But especially bunnies.)
Take care!
One day in the Maze Haven
Another bunny activity of daily life - play.
Doesn't really need a lot of explanation.
Ethel likes being up high (when it is someplace she can get up to and down from by herself).
Lucy is in all of the pictures with Ethel, just never the same place twice.
Peek-a-boo!
Our Maze Haven is from Binky Bunny.
Merry Christmas!
One of my all-time favorite bunny pictures ...
*Sigh*  Okay, Mom, I'll pose because it makes you so happy
and, after all, I am so darn cute.
This is Mr Cookie, one of the cutest bunnies ever and my way of wishing everyone a joyous, happy and safe holiday!
Bunny yawn
Trying to learn how to use a new camera. Accidentally caught a very short vid of Bunya yawning and stretching.
10 Commandments for Bunny Care
One family's tribute video in memory of their bunny, Roger, who passed over The Rainbow Bridge 03-14-2011.
Before you adopt, learn about rabbit care from your local HRS chapter - take a Bunny 101 or 201 class. And make sure you have a rabbit-savvy ("exoctics") vet.
More bunny care resources are listed here.
Don't give pets as presents!
This says it well:
Rabbit Ramblings is 3 years old!
A few musings on our third anniversary ...
THANK YOU!
Thank you to all the fans of the Rabbit Ramblings Facebook page. It has become its own blog. While there's usually a link to any new posts here, it has many of its own cute bunny posts, alerts, news items and more. And as far as "reach", it seems to reach what took this blog three years (over 270,000 pageviews) -- about every 6 weeks or so.
Thank you to all you bunny fans out there who are members, followers, subscribers and especially, the commenters. Special commenter recognition must again go to SpeedyRabbit and Rabbit'sGuy, the most prolific commenters and who touch so many bunny blogs around the www.
T
hanks to Bunya, Lucy & Ethel for making our lives so entertaining.
Thanks to our daughter who smuggled Bunya into our basement.
Thanks to our son who suggested I start a blog.
Thanks to our other son, who mocks me as totally nuts and whose laugh as he's seen something that amuses him on the blog is a joy to hear as he says:
         Just to be clear, Dad, I am laughing at you, not with you.
         [He means it and he is not alone.]
Thanks to my sisters who, before this blog, probably never realized how many Bunny Things cross their paths almost every day.
Thanks to Dr. wife, my partner in life, bunny crime and bunny care.
A few RR statistics:
Bunny Things: Over 300 (especially counting links to posts with Bunny Things too numerous to list one by one on the page)
Posts: Over 1,000
Comments: Over 1,700
Pageviews - all time: Over 270,000
Countries we noticed making those pageviews: 120
Facebook "Likes": Over 3800
Please "Like" Rabbit Ramblings on Facebook! Thank you!
Wishes for the next New Year:
Healthy bunnies, for all of us
Greater capacity at HRS and all animal rescues - but not the need for it
Whirled peas - Tolerance among humankind, joint efforts to repair the world, good health and prosperity for all
We hope to see more of you next year!
Little miss perpetual motion bunny meets Bunya the Hutt
Mr. Bunya excels at chill-axin'. Miss Ethel excels at play.
When perpetual motion meets perpetual loaf, and wants to play...
Well, she tried.
P.S. This is Rabbit Ramblings' 1,000th post!
Bunny proof your books
Long ago, before there was a Lucy & Ethel, Bunya was a lone wolf bunny bachelor. To pass the time, he took up reading in his personal library. We started out as many uneducated bunny owners. We were fortunate that the vet we chose was rabbit-savvy (an "exotics" vet) and that we found the House Rabbit Society.
But before we heard of "bunny-proofing"...
Bunya was a voracious "reader".
And soon, this is what "his" library looked like.
As a consequence, this is what our bookshelves look like now.
Lucy seems to like it just fine.
Bunny Monday Meme*day (Bun wrath)
You mean, it's not just Bunya, Lucy & Ethel that don't like their mani-pedi???
Our buns have that same A-frame stick chew toy and the same cardboard tunnel.
Bunny owners ... we're all crazy!
Bunny activity of daily living - snuggling
As you can see here, watching TV could be its own activity of daily bunny life. In this case, all three were watching the tube.
It started with Lucy & Ethel, snuggle sisters watching the telly. Bunya did not want to miss out on a chance to join in and maybe even get groomed, so he inserted himself between the girls, but not completely.
Eventually, Lucy turned around to get some loving and it turned into their classic "you groom me first" head butt, between Lucy & Bunya. Ethel, the sweetest bunny, was just happy to lean on the pile of snuggle and for once, not be in demand for her grooming services.
Bunny fruit tray
The bunnies are enjoying a fruit tray, little pieces of banana, grape and blueberry (more than they usually at at one time, but it was for the video). In the beginning, the three of them line up and do their cute rapid chewing. Near the end, when Bunya is satisfied there is no more to be had, he cleans up, including the little jerky hand moves and then washes his face.
That healthy bunnies are pretty much self-cleaning is one of their appealing characteristics.
Real rabbit fur being sold as faux
However you choose to follow up, if you do - please be POLITE!
Polite has a better chance of obtaining change than ranting, hating, cursing obscenities, and the like because it is easier to marginalize such behavior.
Bunny Monday Meme*day (Every crinkle)
This is so true!
They could be sleeping, hiding in a box, playing, drinking, eating hay, littering (in the litter box) - as soon as they hear the bag crinkle, they zoom front and center! And stare at you with those big bunny eyes. Six of them, like "Whatcha' got for us, huh, huh?!?"
It doesn't matter if it's a human treat for you. They dish out the googly-eyed guilt until you cave and give them a piece of papaya or Probios.
But for their good health, stick to bunny treats and don't let them guilt you into snacking on human treats that are bad for them (or even treats marketed for bunnies but that are still bad for them.)
