Bunny pumpkins - a Halloween bonus post

Did you carve a pumpkin for Halloween?
There was an HRS Facebook post of a pumpkin carved like a bunny!

So after a quick Google image search, here are a few "Boo! Bunnies" for you

Dealing Bunya

I have a Kindle and, of course, every electronic gadget since the first home computer must have Solitaire on it.

The game usually allows you to pick the color of the card backs. This version also lets you customize the cards.

So mine deals little pictures of Bunya!

What have you "customized" to remind you of your bunny (or other pet)?

Bunny Halloween Treat

NOT for the bunnies - for the kids.
My wife found these:

Well, I suppose that beats handing out quinoa and omega-3 supplements to them.
Unbeknownst to her, I have also scored some Tootsie Pops, to hand out with the "Bunny Grahams". (However, it will be "knownst" once she reads this post.)

Happy Halloween!

One evening around the bunny watering hole ...

As bunny owners know, with a lot of patience and being "camera-ready", you might get lucky and capture some of those wonderful "things" about bunnies, the things you want to share with other bunny slaves and show those who are not yet bunny slaves ("There are two kinds of people in this world ....").

This is but a reasonable facsimile, due again to Lucy's tense paranoia. As I moved to get the picture, she picked her head up to see what I was doing (I was trying to get the really cute picture).

The bunnies were in another of their "bunmuda triangle" poses. After sharing a few grooming licks here and there, they all put their heads flat to the ground and smushed them against the others (Bunya and Lucy are still like that here). They were perhaps enjoying the closeness, but definitely waiting to see who would crack first and lick the other two.

Lucy just can't relax when there's the potential to be picked up ,
even with a 4-1/2 foot fence between her and human.

Lucille bunny from T.H.E. Rabbit Resource

Remember Lucille's babies?
Well, here's Lucille herself. According to T.H.E. Rabbit Resource's Facebook page (source of this picture), this is one of her favorite places to hang out.

She looks like she has molded the sofa cushions just as she likes.
If humans are couch potatoes,
are rabbits couch carrots?

Lucille, mother of very cute babies

Lucille's babies need to be spayed and neutered before they can be adopted. They are being cared for by T.H.E. Rabbit Resource, whose Facebook page is here. If you can help, their donation page is here.

Bunny in art

Bunny detail in work by Eames Demetrios

Thanks to the RRRRR (Rabbit Ramblings Regular Roving Reporter, or R5 for short) who spotted this bunny in art and sent it along with all the pertinent data and links.

You can read about the artist's exhibit here.

I like the museum's membership page. The cheapest membership level is Student and since they are so often pinching pennies, this is called the "No Monet" membership level.
Love a good pun.

More of Lucille's babies!!!

Remember this image from an earlier post?

(I LOVE this picture)

Well, T.H.E. Rabbit Resource has posted more of the Lucille's babies pictures!

Iron Bunnies - Battle Hay Cube!

Allez cuisine!

Originally, I think the hay cube in question was Ethel's. Lucy snatched it and ran off. Lucy did not want to share - even if her kinder, gentler sister Ethel was completely willing to share.

Several edits in this clip keep the "action" sequences a little closer together.
At 20 seconds in, Lucy runs off with the hay cube (may actually be the second time).
At 55s, Lucy does it again!
At 1m10s, Ethel rejoins Lucy. Again.

But after Ethel rejoins Lucy, Lucy is giving off a major disapproving bunny stare.

Bonus - edited out of the above video is a close-up clip of Mr. Bunya munching his hay cube, totally unaware, or at least uncaring, about the hay cube battle between the sisters, going on right behind him.
Why should he care? He has his cube and nobody's messing with that one!

Do your bunnies or pets run off with treats?
Or other things?

Bunya's hay cube

Well, I suppose the title pretty much says it all ...
Bunya's just bossing it around to get at the most desirable gnawing angle.
At about 18 seconds in, there's 5 seconds of that perfect bunny chewing pose - completely still, focused on chewing, with the mouth and cheeks pumping like the pistons in a well-oiled engine.

All the bunnies love them (see this earlier post). And they love to take them out of the "cube box" and chew them elsewhere. In the background, to the left of Bunya's fuzzy butt, you can see Lucy and Ethel (or at least their ears) bobbing up and down as they demolish another hay cube together. Originally, I think it was Ethel's hay cube - Lucy snatched it and ran off. Lucy did not want to share and did this a few times after Ethel caught up to her, completely willing to share. I will see if I can find that video.

Do your bunnies like hay cubes?

Ethel NASBunny 500

Ethel was doing the bunny zoom, stop, twist & turn, zoom some more. Thought maybe I caught the "tail" end of it when she jumped into the hay box. But I left the camera running.

She ate hay for a while and so I finally zoomed in on her eating - just when she decided to start again, of course. Quick jerky zoom-out. The hay eating has been 95% edited out to keep the video about the day at the races.

At the end, she shoots out of the tunnel like a cannonball, zooms around behind me and leaps into the den. Whew! You can burn calories just watching her.

Lucy & Ethel

This is a "detail" of the GHRS picture when the bunnies were boarding there. It just amuses me so ... little Ethel, pretty much putting up with anything, her little feet lined up.

Maybe Lucy used to be an optician.

Lucy: Okay, now we'll cover this eye.
Read the letters on the third line from the bottom.

Ethel: T - R - E - A - T !

Ethel bunny, well, just being cute

The hay cube box is our attempt to keep the hay dust to one general area. Of course, the bunnies often grab a choice cube (do not ask me their criteria) and run off with it to chew someplace else (and do not ask me why that someplace else is preferred - I don't know those criteria either).

Although Ethel was in the hay cube box, her attention was not on the hay cubes, but on the box.

I am not sure if she was playing the piano, shadow boxing or "peeling" the box to get to the good parts (again, don't ask me...).

Please do NOT "trance" your bunnies

Live and learn.

The concern is that this is "tonic immobility", a fear response by a prey animal.
They are not relaxed -- it is a last ditch "terminal" defense mechanism; basically, they may be playing dead in an effort to throw off a predator.

We do not do it anymore. They are other ways to love and snuggle with your bunny.

Squeee-worthy bunnies need help

There are so many bunnies that need help. HRS re-posted this one on Facebook, a real cutey.
Six pack o' cuteness!

Lucille's babies need to be spayed and neutered before they can be adopted. They are being cared for by T.H.E. Rabbit Resource, whose Facebook page is here. If you can help, their donation page is here.

What happens when you add hay cubes to a box?

Hopefully, this riddle is not too taxing.

Everybody checking out the fresh hay cubes.

Lucy fairly quickly decides three's too crowded,
picks up one of the largest cubes
and hauls it off back to the pen to enjoy by herself.

(And, by the way, she was too close to a human;
if she got too distracted by the treat, she might get picked up.)

Ethel and Bunya remain in the box and
share the other really big hay cube.

Later, Bunya discovers the treasure Lucy left behind,
just slightly smaller than before.

Ethel demonstrates the binky bunny hay buffet

Actually, it's just a contraption we rigged so that the bunnies could have fresh hay 7/24. You will see Ethel digging in the hay to find just the right piece of hay, with the flavor, bouquet and lingering aftertaste that she finds most appealing. (Be sure to check it out about 25 seconds in when she stretches to get the hay from the highest hole.)

They all do this ... it has about 5 or 6 varieties of hay. It's 80% Timothy hay, one of two varieties, and the rest are various smaller portions of "treat" hays. We restock it every few weeks - it's a big container.

And they are little bunnies.

Bunnies are SMART!!!

Posted on this theme before and here it is demonstrated again, this time by Lucy the Paranoid (tip o' the hat to RG). Mid-week, we could stand Lucy's furry butt no more and chased her down. It took two of us and she gave us many of her "looks" (previously posted in RR) and several loud thumps. We finally caught her, groomed her, gave her treats and released her back into the wild.

This weekend, Lucy obviously remembered this experience and prior Sunday mornings when we cleaned out their cage. As soon as we started, she disappeared. We kept asking each other, "Where's Lucy?"

Finally, we checked to make sure the hall gate was closed (it was). Then it hit me and I said, "I'll bet she's under the desk." My wife confirmed this and once again, we got a good laugh from our bunnies. Lucy went to the one place she knew we could not reach her.

Lucy backed into the furthest corner under a very heavy desk.
(Note the nibble marks along the bottom edge of the desk,
which make it the world's largest bunny chew toy.)

Even when we were all finished and gave them their greens, Lucy refused to be duped. She resisted the whistles and calls of "chowtime", the come-get-dinner signal for the buns. Finally, my wife tossed some greens for her on the floor in front of the desk. Eventually, Lucy cautiously came out, grabbed some, backed up, and ate them.

Bunny Mentalist

or Mentalist's Bunny?

In a recent episode (10-07-2012) of The Mentalist, two different bunnies made appearances (one near the beginning and another at the end).

Since this is a bunny blog, it is so noted for the records.

Bunny Pilates

Ethel doing her bunny Pilates

She makes do with the equipment she has.

Actually, it was a post-treat flop.
We were laughing so hard,
it was amazing we got pictures of her posed like this.

Peter Rabbit Revival

Anyone else listen to NPR?
Yeah, me neither. But my wife does.
And she heard a story about Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson reviving the Peter Rabbit stories.
You can hear the story and interview here.

(And actually, yes, I do listen to NPR, but not as much as she does.)

RR Submission: Silky - Got adopted!!!

Yea!
Paperwork finished with HAWS ...
ready for the ride HOME!
Let's go! Let's go!

Silky seemed to be acclimating just fine.
Beautiful bunny!
Here Silky helps bring down the human slave's blood pressure
(while getting groomed ... a most fair exchange)
Congrats to Silky and the human slave.
Wishing you years of binkies together!

Viva Las Vegas - Bunnies!

Bunny statue in Las Vegas airport
(There were other animals, but this is a bunny blog, after all.)
Cute little bunny as one icon on
what passes for a slot machine these days.
Unfortunately, it was the unicorns that paid off,
making the mythical icon as mythical as winning.
Picture of the boarding bunnies.
I imagine that they were being offered a treat
and Lucy, anxious to be first,
used her sister Ethel for a leg up.
The one-eye thing makes Ethel look like a pirate bunny.
Arrrr...

In Memoriam: Confucius

I am very sorry to report that another blogging bunny inspiration passed away ...

Confucius (Passed over the Rainbow Bridge 09-30-2012)
Confucius's human slaves were Kate and Jay of Daily Bunny, one of the funniest bunny sites out there. Confucius was a lucky shelter bunny to have this couple as his human slaves; he helped them showcase so many more shelter bunnies. Together, they have contributed to the welfare of many rescued bunnies - and that's an incredibly wonderful legacy.

You can read about Confucius and offer your condolences here.

Please make a donation to a bunny shelter near you in Confucius's memory.
If you don't have a shelter, here's a great one.

Rainbow Bridge is posted here.
