GHRS Silent Auction Evening - Our Bunny Hosts

Last night was an absolutely wonderful fundraiser held by our local HRS chapter. It included a wine tasting and silent auction (yes, we scored ... that's for a later post).

And the wine sponsor?
Why, Rabbit Ridge Winery, of course!

Bunya in Australia?

My son and his wife are in Australia on business, with maybe a little fun here and there.

They came across this sign - actually there - not an internet image grab:

This was one of the areas explored in trying to explain where Bunya's name came from, posted here. Check it out - the bunya pine cones are HUGE, and there's a picture.

Everything old is bun spankin' new again!

We had a semi-major bunny playground purge and restructuring. Some severely chewed boxes were recycled, some boxes were "refreshed" and there was some rearrangement.

The rearrangement is what seems to have made everything old new again. The bunnies explored various boxes from all sorts of angles.

of the carpet that is under their pen.
And leave us little strung together poops (bad!).
This box has been relocated and
its replacement now blocks carpet corner access.

serves as their pool of hay cubes. Of course.

The "warren" is a great box and they all love it. There are openings on all sides. It has another smaller box inside of it that helps support the top and gives them more holes to jump through (or they can go around the inner box). It had been a while since we checked inside, so we did last cleaning day. There was only one (1) poop in the whole thing. Of course, there were hundreds of little pieces of shredded cardboard, but that's what it's for, so that was fine. I don't even recall what came in the box but eventually, I am going to have to find its replacement.

This is Silky, who, while not too keen on being held (like a lot of bunnies) will quite willingly melt next to you for head rubs, as demonstrated below.

RR bunnies around the web or "The other white bunny"

As noted in yesterday's post, my daughter has been surfing the web for bunnies and in her travels around the Ethernet has found the picture has been picked up by various websites around the world, for example:

French
Hebrew
Russian

She found other languages, too, but these are the ones she sent me. Some sites just want a picture on the page to break things up and some are about camouflage.

But - there are three!
Someone didn't look closely enough! They thought Ethel was other slipper!

One of my Regular Roving Rabbit Ramblings Reporters (in this case, my daughter) has spotted one of our favorite pictures traveling around the web. On the particular site here, you can make up your own caption or poster. As of the writing of this post, it has been used 212 times. Here's mine:

Bunya's diet

Mr. Bunya is cranky. And he's taking it out on Lucy and Ethel.

Bunya weighs between 4.5 and 5 pounds, but his ideal fighting weight is 4 pounds. We left them all at the vet for a one-night trip (normally, we'd board them at GHRS, but this one only for one night; the vet's around the corner and GHRS is a much longer trip). Dr. Mike got a chance to check out Bunya and his official report included some concern about Bunya's ... well, Bunya's "moobs".

So, how do you put one of three bonded bunnies that live together on a diet?

Here's what we're trying:
1. Reduction in treats for all.
However, they now ALL follow us as soon as we get up and go anywhere near any container where their treats are stored. Yeah, we cave. Sometimes. How can I deny them when I have papaya on my breath?
2. Reduction in "crumbles" and greens. Of course, we are still supplying unlimited fresh hay and water, as always.
3. More than just a reduction, there's also monitored eating. When breakfast or dinner is set out, the food is removed when Bunya is the last bun standing at "the table". So, there may be some greens and crumbles left, but if at least one of Lucy or Ethel is not eating with him, the dishes are yanked. No more Bunya eating alone, kinda' like they say it's not good to drink alone (reminds me of George Thorogood and the Destroyers, I Drink Alone).

Their snatching food from each other's mouth has risen to new heights, close to a sport.

They often hang out together in some arrangement or another (which is always fun and heart-warming to see).

What struck me so funny here was that their ears all seemed to be so alert, kinda' like a little bunny windmill farm.

Yes, Bunya does "Love his girls", with very good reason ...

I get the idea of this license plate.
You'd think it would be on an "i" car - Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini.
It was on a Camry.
That, I don't get.

Anyway, here's HIS (chew) TOY:

Well, ignoring the spelling (we'll give the driver the benefit of the doubt and assume "FAMILY" was taken - assuming that Famaly is not the Family's last name), here's a corresponding bunny picture for this plate:

Vanity license plate: ESCAPEE

Here's how I came by this plate: When headed to my Mom's on the typical busy street found here, I saw a turtle was trying to cross the road. In Atlanta, this can be dangerous for people. I noticed this at 55 mph. Well, really, Officer, I was only going 40 mph. (And turtle - hare ... related for this blog's purpose.)

Anyway, regardless, I was past the turtle in the blink of an eye, went up the road and made a U-turn (legal, really). When I circled back around to try to get the turtle off the road, someone had beat me to it by a few seconds. This was his license plate, which I think is a really funny vanity plate. He was gone before I could get any backstory ... I barely had time to snap the picture.

Bundini challenge

You may recall the Great Escape. A baby gate has now been installed - anchored to the door jamb more firmly.

Of course, the bars were too far apart. This was confirmed when Lucy squeezed between them to see what mischief she could stir up.

Anticipating that, some smaller fencing wire was attached to the gate.
So far, so good.

Bunya: What the #@$%&??? What is this?
Lucy: I don't know - we better get Ethel.

Ethel, mastermind of the previous escapes,

so as not to call attention to herself
as she scopes out her new challenge.

Pancake bunnies

Pancake bunnies - So, what did you think would be in this post? Pancakes shaped like bunnies? Bunnies with pancakes on their heads (actually, there are plenty of those images on the web)?

Well, in this case, it is referring to the flat puddle of bunny they make themselves into when they are getting head rubs. Bunya will come over and let you do it all by himself. If Ethel is going to participate, it's because she's smushed up next to Bunya; maybe she's imagining that he is grooming her. For a change. Lucy - will participate on the rare occasion (more so when they were younger, which led to my favorite picture of them, at the bottom of the page and here.)

My wife was doing the grooming and I grabbed the camera. On the first try, they "awoke" looking for more. Got it the second time.

"Bunny pancakes"

Lucy's tunnel exercise

This is from a recent Sunday morning when we clean their pen completely, groom them, et cetera. We take everything out of the pen, including their big white tube/tunnel. We lean the tunnel against the fireplace, so it is at a slight angle. Every week, Lucy gets her exercise trying to climb up the incline.

This is her exer-cycle:
1. Insert self into tube.
2. Run as fast as you can to try to get through it (wish the sound of her nails clacking on the tube had recorded).
3. Slide back to bottom, butt only sticking out of tube (we clean their pen, them groom them, so the buncupine butt was furminated and brushed after this was videoed).
4. Pause and take a few deep breaths.
5. Rinse and repeat.

This video is less than 90 seconds; who knows how long she would have tried if she hadn't heard someone approaching.
