Where does your bunny like to be pet?

Assuming your bunny likes to be pet at all.

The chart below has recently popped up in several locations around the internet. Taking Bunya as my measuring stick, I have to whole-heartedly agree with the "Yes" indicators on the ears and forehead.

However, I must take exception to the "I Kill You!" territory. Much like the civil war and certain states, that needs to be divided into a "North" and "South" area. The label can stay on the southern section.

However, Bunya - and I gather many other bunnies - have a "hare" hair trigger in the northern section, just above the tail. Scratch him there and his automatic response is to start licking. He almost can't leave you until you stop. Until then, he will lick himself (e.g., doolap) or whatever else you might place in front of him ... your hand ... another bunny. If your bunny has this reaction, it's a nice little bunny bonding aid - he'll groom the other bun.

How does the chart above apply to your bunny?

  1. I thought Umbra was the only one that does that. She goes crazy licks her feet, the carpet or nothing at all. If I do it long enough she turns on me and attacks me with kisses, but I think she doesn't like it.

  4. Yup! Lola loves it there, too. On him, the 'undercarriage' is off limits, tree tootsies are limited access, and he's pretty much a 'luuv spuunje' everywhere else. When we rescued him, I just kind of instinctively treated him like I did my 2 legged babies, when they were small - a gentle, soothing massage calms them right down. Worked like a charm, & he's been a mamas boy, ever since.

  5. this one makes me go LOL! Yes quite accurate. But my bunnies don't really mind the tail bit anymore. think i trained them to accept me petting them on it

  6. Yeah, we call that the "licky reflex". Great way to bond bunnies: set them next to each other and scratch that button!

  7. Hmm our Bernie loves us warming his small ears up (Netherland Dwarf) and lets us touch his stubby tail but yes anything South of his tail is no-no. Doesn't mind long strokes from his nose to his tail, doesn't mind if we touch his front paws during those strokes but if we accidentally touch too near his belly he will jump. And absolutely no to underside. I love how our Bernie jumps onto us when we're on the sofa for strokes. He'll even nudge if we ignore his overtures.
