Funny Bunny Thursday Meme

So true...

The human grooms

When there's that one little tuft of hair sticking out of his cheek and you just have to snag it. And the treat is so good, he lets you. (Mr. Bunya winks at me. Twice.)

Bunya takes his medicine like a champ!

No bunny burrito needed for now.
Of course, there is a treat incentive for his good behavior.

Bunny Butt Cakes

Bunny butt cakes (and similar edibles) are a "thing", apparently. Several versions have been posted before but now bon appetit has gathered some pins here. This one is my favorite...

Want an Easter bunny?

Real, live pet bunnies are a commitment for 10-12 years or more. They need companionship, unlimited hay and fresh water, vet care, toys, hidey places, a bunny-proofed environment, and lots of space to run around and exercise (in your house) for at least 4-5 hours a day.
Pet bunnies are cute, fragile and expensive.
They poop (a lot), chew wood and wires, and may not like to be picked up or to cuddle.

If you really want a bunny (or better, a bonded pair), educate yourself (like at an HRS Bunny 101 and 201 course).
Then adopt - don't shop.
To learn about bunnies and local HRS chapters:

As for Easter, get a stuffed bunny toy or candy bunny. A live animal is not an impulse purchase or to be ignored, abandoned or thrown out after the kids lose interest. For many reasons, a rabbit needs an adult to care for it and to supervise children around it.

Toy bunny versus real, live bunny

Any toy bunny will be way less expensive than a real bunny. A live animal is not a child's toy.

Please - no real, live bunnies for Easter.
Adopt - don't shop.

Bunya's noises

Bunya has started to squeak and grunt when eating. This is a fairly recent development. A prior bunny, Alice, used to "growl"; her little motor was running all the time (a little ruby-eyed white, Alice did not like to be picked up but once you did, her little body melted into you). Other than Alice, we have not encountered "verbal" bunnies.

Turn sound up and listen. Filter out the crunching sounds of a small piece of Probios he was munching as a treat for taking his meds. He sounds like he needs WD-40. If this is indicative of any bunny condition or illness, please let me know.

Easter bunny napkin folding

Martha Stewart bunny napkin recipe
Materials: Cotton or linen napkins, starched

1. Fold starched napkin into thirds to form a rectangle. (If you're using a square napkin, you'll need to fold in half, and then fold in half again to get a long rectangular shape.)
2. Crease in half to create a center line for reference; fold top corners down along this line.
3. Fold up from bottom corners along dotted lines.
4. Bring left and right edges together on center line.

5. Flip upside down and over. Turn up bottom point.

6. To fasten: Fold left and right corners back; tuck one corner into the pocket of the other. Pull out bunny ears first; open up base.

If you are a little less formal, here's a video showing how to fold paper napkins:

Bunya update

Bunya's current bout of GI stasis has been mostly chronicled on the Rabbit Ramblings Facebook page. This actually started last month. After a stint at the vet, Bunya came home. He seemed to be improving for a while but poop volume (a serious measure for bunny humans) never seemed to ratchet up to full production. Then we noticed that they seem to be declining.

Of course, as soon as Dr. Mrs. Bunnymom leaves town,
Bunya's behavior exhibits tummy problems.

Tried baby simethicone, metoclopramide, Bene-Bac and pushing fluids (not all at once). I stayed home and watched him. He was not improving so I took him to the vet. Have but did not want to push Critical Care right after the rest of it. Also, his favorite treat is a Probios (probiotic he gets daily); when he does not eat it, we know he's sick.

See the post - Bunny Care: Monitor your bunny's mood (from an episode 2 years ago)

Tuesday evening, stopped on the way home from the office
to love on Mr. Bunya for 20-25 minutes or so.
Just to give him a little comfort
and let him know we missed him.
Skritched all the favorites: forehead, ears and cheeks/jawline.
He'd just received sub-q fluids so he had moobs
and was a little sloshy.
When the tech came to take Mr. B back, he said that Mr. B's one chill bun.

Last night, stopped again on the way home and Bunya's behavior seems to be improving. The prior evening, he sat still and let me love on him while he rested on the counter (see above). This time, he was more interested in exploring the vet's countertop, scale, computer mouse wire...

So I put him on the floor where he had a little more room to run around. The vet tech brought Bunya into the room in a tray of hay because he was eating when I stopped by; put the hay on the floor with him, along with a towel for traction.

He wandered around the exam room.

He came over to stare at me,
in case I had a treat.

Checking out the hay.

Gave me "the butt" pose,
just to make sure I understood
how he felt about having to be at the vet.

A couple of minutes later,
he sat next to me
and let me love on him some.

This morning, I dropped off some of his first cut Timothy Hay
(for high fiber) and a few toys to connect him to home.
Also included a small carpet square that he and Ethel
snuggle on together, so he could remember her and home.

Poop, Bunya, poop!
[From the movie, Bunya Gump]

When we get the word that he can come home, we will take Ethel there to spend the day with him and bring him home in the afternoon. That way, they have a neutral space to get reacquainted and will both smell like the vet's office. This procedure is a more gentle re-bonding, instead of just bringing Bunya home and he smells strange to Ethel.

Waiting for that time.

Funny Bunny Monday Meme*day

Ever happen to you? You're sitting there, watching TV, and feel someone staring at you. You realize, you are late with something.
With us, Bunya stares when we are late with the Probios treat.

Easter - bad for (real, live) bunnies

This is a link where you can read about why: Easter and Rabbits Do Not Mix

The RR Bunny Advocacy page of Memes (many about Easter)

Please ...
Pick some memes/posters you like and spread the word:
Post it on your blog or Facebook page.
Post it in your church.
Ask your clergy to mention it from the pulpit.
Circulate it to your neighborhood groups.
Email it to your friends and contacts.
Send them to teachers/post it at school.
Ask your local paper to print it.
Ask TV and radio channels to make it into a PSA.

Please help save somebunny.

"It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little."

Regardless of the effort, after Easter, rabbit rescues will be flooded with rabbits that have become unwanted Easter gifts. Please donate any amount you can to your local rabbit or other animal rescue. If you don't have one, here's a great one: GHRS
And here is the international House Rabbit Society.

Don't give animals as gifts -- this applies to bunnies, chicks, ducklings, cats and dogs. Please be an educated, loving and caring pet person.
Adopt - don't shop.

The Plea of the Easter Bunny

Will you think of me at Easter,
Will you buy me as a gift...
For your girlfriend, boyfriend, little child
To grant their special wish?

Will you think of me inside my hutch,
That tiny 'starter-pack'
That doesn't let me hop around
And starts to hurt my back?

Will you think of me 'tomorrow'
When you go to work or school
With a lovely lunch packed in your bag,
'Cos I get hungry too...

Will you think of me, just sometimes please?
My hutch, it smells so bad.
I'd love some water in my bowl,
And some hay..I'd be so glad!

Will you think of me when the sun shines bright
And it's 'wonderfully hot'
But I cant get cool, this heat is cruel,
Don't tell me you've forgot!

Will you think of me when the north wind blows
And my hutch floor turns to ice,
And I'm shivering whilst you're all warm
Underneath your quilt so nice?

Will you think of me? Please think of me!
I'm helpless, at your mercy!
Why did you buy me on a whim?
Why did you then desert me?

Will you think of me now Easter has
Arrived yet once again,
And a thousand little bunnies
Face a life of hopeless pain?

I can binkie over rainbows now,
I am happy, and I'm free.
But I wonder, now that I have gone,

Will you ever think of me....?
