(No cost to you) Bunny Rescue Fundraising Challenge

Rabbit Ramblings will donate funds to rescue rabbits based on the net increase in RR page "Likes" on its Facebook page by May 31, 2017. New Likes = $1 [Starting Likes count is 13,131.]

The Easter bunny rejects/releases started on Easter and GHRS rescued 6 bunnies - no holiday break for the volunteers. Yesterday, another four were saved, but not before injuries. --------------->

If you have already "Liked" RR (thank you), then tell your bunny friends to "Like" RR on Facebook, re-post the challenge or "share" it from the RR Facebook page. (Non-bunny people will “un-like” it and that gets us nowhere.)

P.S. On this page, there's a "Like Us on Facebook" button near the top of the right hand column, under the Pages list. The donation is for increased "page likes" (versus individual posts on the Facebook page - but you can "Like" those, too). FB comments are welcome, as are pictures of your bunnies being cute or mischievous, things that lend itself to a caption/meme.

If you would like to make a donation yourself, that would be generous and wonderful. No amount is too small - it all adds up and helps save bunnies.
Thank You!

Maximum Likes donation = $1,000.

Bunnyfest 2015 with Hoppy Hour & Agility Course

A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers who make this event possible and wonderful -- and that rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for abandoned and abused rabbits. Oh, and educate the public about proper bunny care and what wonderful pets they can be.

Check them out to adopt a bunny, read great bunny care articles or donate:

CUTE BUNNIES
Cute buns everywhere... at Hoppy Hour (next section, below), on the agility course (further below), held by their humans, and in guest enclosures (so they could relax and their humans could mingle, too).

Chillaxin

Bunster?
(Bunny Hipster)

This little bunny was in constant motion so I have a dozen
or more blurry pictures of him. All of a sudden, he plopped
down (one leg out back) to survey his domain. Guess he'd
already passed his business cards around to everybunny else.

If Cousin It was a bunny.

HOPPY HOUR
A first for GHRS. Looked like a huge success.
If you would like to see the bunnies in action, check out the videos here, here and here.

Lots of humans, too.
Lots of toys, litter boxes, mazes, tubes...

Bunny networking

Bunny butt!
Somebody was comfortable enough to flop.

Several bunnies looked for humans to pet them.
They had no problem being immensely successful in such endeavors.
As I said...

Bountiful bunnies
Friends were made.

Crowded - there were plenty of restrooms.
Was wondering if this nuzzling couple
was already bonded or just met.

"Hop on in -- the hay is fine!"
"That's good,...a little more to the right."

Looking for pets in all the right places
"Where'd you go?"

Willow leaves - treats!
And the human bouncers,
just in case anyone got overly aggressive.
Or affectionate.

AGILITY COURSE
Another first for GHRS. It was not like some tournament contest obstacles. The bar was low but the couple of bunnies I observed weren't sure what to do. Consequently, the gentle volunteer showing it to the bunnies and putting the buns through their paces is the one who got the most exercise. I hope her back is okay. Maybe next year, they can give her a little rolling stool so she doesn't have to bend over so much. The course looked like you could set up a few home-made imitations; depending on your bunny's personality, it would be something fun to do to bond with your bun. And I'm sure they would not mind getting a few reward treats.

Coming to the fulcrum, about to...

"Whoa, whoa, whoa - was that an earthquake?"

Over you go

"I did it!"

"What's this?"
"Hey, lady. this thing is moving!"

Easter is coming soon - bad for (real, live) bunnies

This is a link where you can read about why: Easter and Rabbits Do Not Mix

The RR Bunny Advocacy page of Memes (many about Easter)

Please ...
Pick some memes/posters you like and spread the word:
Post it on your blog or Facebook page.
Post it in your church.
Ask your clergy to mention it from the pulpit.
Circulate it to your neighborhood groups.
Email it to your friends and contacts.
Send them to teachers/post it at school.
Ask your local paper to print it.
Ask TV and radio channels to make it into a PSA.

Please help save somebunny.
"It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little."

Regardless of the effort, after Easter, rabbit rescues will be flooded with rabbits that have become unwanted Easter gifts. Please donate any amount you can to your local rabbit or other animal rescue. If you don't have one, here's a great one: GHRS
And here is the international House Rabbit Society.

Don't give animals as gifts -- this applies to bunnies, chicks, ducklings, cats and dogs. Please be an educated, loving and caring pet person.
Adopt - don't shop.

The Plea of the Easter Bunny

Will you think of me at Easter,
Will you buy me as a gift...
For your girlfriend, boyfriend, little child
To grant their special wish?

Will you think of me inside my hutch,
That tiny 'starter-pack'
That doesn't let me hop around
And starts to hurt my back?

Will you think of me 'tomorrow'
When you go to work or school
With a lovely lunch packed in your bag,
'Cos I get hungry too...

Will you think of me, just sometimes please?
My hutch, it smells so bad.
I'd love some water in my bowl,
And some hay..I'd be so glad!

Will you think of me when the sun shines bright
And it's 'wonderfully hot'
But I cant get cool, this heat is cruel,
Don't tell me you've forgot!

Will you think of me when the north wind blows
And my hutch floor turns to ice,
And I'm shivering whilst you're all warm
Underneath your quilt so nice?

Will you think of me? Please think of me!
I'm helpless, at your mercy!
Why did you buy me on a whim?
Why did you then desert me?

Will you think of me now Easter has
Arrived yet once again,
And a thousand little bunnies
Face a life of hopeless pain?

I can binkie over rainbows now,
I am happy, and I'm free.
But I wonder, now that I have gone,

Will you ever think of me....?

(Some of) What Bunny Volunteers Do

Easter is coming, 04-05-2015.
Please do NOT get a rabbit for Easter or give one as a gift.

The stories below are examples of what happens to these poor animals.
If they are not:
A. killed from improper care (e.g., bunnies need hay, not carrots; many pet store "treats" sold for bunnies can be deadly) or
B. neglected in a corner of the garage or in a hutch (that exposes them to temperature extremes, noxious fumes, no socialization and cramped quarters), then
C. uncaring owners may "release" them into the wild (for which domestic bunnies have no coping skills).

Volunteers:
1. Give hours of time to rescuing and rehabbing abandoned bunnies, often nursing them back to health,
2. Transport bunnies to the vet or elsewhere as needed,
3. Provide a safe, clean, caring environment to house the bunnies,
4. Educate people on how to care for bunnies,
5. Often take these bunnies into their own homes to foster when the shelter is filled to capacity (as it is too often and especially a few weeks after Easter),
6. Look for forever homes for these pets,
7. Advocate for rabbits where often gross mistreatment is uncovered,
8. Donate their own money to the cause and hold fundraising events,
And (finally, to the point of this story) -
9. Are bunny wranglers.
[I am probably forgetting a lot more.]

So to connect item C with item 9 above, here are a couple of the cases from last month. Volunteers tried over weeks to corral these two survivors, dubbed "warrior bunnies" for their incredible will to live. Their survival over these last frigid winter weeks makes their stories even more amazing.

The now named Annie Oakley was spotted near a facility on Oak street, hence the name. She was one of 4 abandoned bunnies. One's body was found after being hit by a car and the other two disappeared, likely prey to the colony of feral cats that lived where they were thoughtfully abandoned.
Abandoned bunny

Finally!

Annie Oakley!

Annie Oakley in her new safe digs
Update from Ellen, the volunteer who took her in: I brought the bunny home and she settled in quite nicely! She finally started eating pellets and Exact, and I couldn't believe how many times this rabbit flopped and rolled over! This was probably the first time in weeks this bunny felt truly safe. She looked so relaxed and happy! She's still very skittish, but looked happy with flopping and grooming!

Delta was spotted - well, you figure it out - this is Atlanta! In both cases, volunteers were restricted from accessing certain areas, like where the bunnies spent a lot of time. But they persevered and were able to rescue Delta, too.

Spotted!

Delta - safe inside where domestic bunnies belong!

Here are a few topical memes from the Bunny Advocacy Memes page of this blog. Maybe you can share some of the Easter bunny advocacy memes on your blog or Facebook timeline as the holiday approaches.

Please consider donating to your local animal shelter. Any amount is appreciated. There is no donation too small - of money or your time.
