Easter - bad for (real, live) bunnies

This is a link where you can read about why: Easter and Rabbits Do Not Mix

The RR Bunny Advocacy page of Memes (many about Easter)

Please ...
Pick some memes/posters you like and spread the word:
Post it on your blog or Facebook page.
Post it in your church.
Ask your clergy to mention it from the pulpit.
Circulate it to your neighborhood groups.
Email it to your friends and contacts.
Send them to teachers/post it at school.
Ask your local paper to print it.
Ask TV and radio channels to make it into a PSA.

Please help save somebunny.

"It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little."

Regardless of the effort, after Easter, rabbit rescues will be flooded with rabbits that have become unwanted Easter gifts. Please donate any amount you can to your local rabbit or other animal rescue. If you don't have one, here's a great one: GHRS
And here is the international House Rabbit Society.

Don't give animals as gifts -- this applies to bunnies, chicks, ducklings, cats and dogs. Please be an educated, loving and caring pet person.
Adopt - don't shop.

The Plea of the Easter Bunny

Will you think of me at Easter,
Will you buy me as a gift...
For your girlfriend, boyfriend, little child
To grant their special wish?

Will you think of me inside my hutch,
That tiny 'starter-pack'
That doesn't let me hop around
And starts to hurt my back?

Will you think of me 'tomorrow'
When you go to work or school
With a lovely lunch packed in your bag,
'Cos I get hungry too...

Will you think of me, just sometimes please?
My hutch, it smells so bad.
I'd love some water in my bowl,
And some hay..I'd be so glad!

Will you think of me when the sun shines bright
And it's 'wonderfully hot'
But I cant get cool, this heat is cruel,
Don't tell me you've forgot!

Will you think of me when the north wind blows
And my hutch floor turns to ice,
And I'm shivering whilst you're all warm
Underneath your quilt so nice?

Will you think of me? Please think of me!
I'm helpless, at your mercy!
Why did you buy me on a whim?
Why did you then desert me?

Will you think of me now Easter has
Arrived yet once again,
And a thousand little bunnies
Face a life of hopeless pain?

I can binkie over rainbows now,
I am happy, and I'm free.
But I wonder, now that I have gone,

Will you ever think of me....?

Another bunnies eating video

Bunnies eating dried kudzu leaves in a morning sunbeam

I wish I had their focus.

If the video does not work here, check out the Rabbit Ramblings YouTube channel.

The hay feeder

We won this hay feeder from the online FB auction of the Alabama Rabbit Rescue. (Their Facebook page is here.)

The bunnies love their new hay feeder, especially since it's filled twice a day with third cut hay. Ethel dives in for that singular best piece of gourmet hay... I'd love to know what makes it so.

One time, I came in the room and she was buried so deep she didn't hear or see me until she pulled her head out - and took off like a rocket to hide. She has issues.

I wouldn't be too surprised to find her entirely inside it one day.

Bunny Bed

Trying to get them to enjoy the new soft pet bed we got for them. This was inspired because Dr. Mrsbunnymom thought Ethel looked like she needed a little pillow under her head when she flops to nap.

Been tossing some of their pellets in there as a snack, but they don't stay; when they finish, they move on.

Love the "ears up" pose.
They're listening for more pellets to land.

At least Bunya hasn't been eating the fabric.

Bunny Art

We painted the bunnies area walls and, finally, put our bunny art back up. Here's a sample. Please note, we did not buy all of these; some were gifts.
Regardless, I guess the judgment would be we are still bunny crazy.

The artist donated a larger version of this to a GHRS art auction.
I got into a bidding war trying to win it. Lost.
Found him at another art festival and bought this as my consolation prize.

Not-so-funny Monday Meme*day

Easter is April 16th. Many bunnies (and chicks) are purchased on impulse and later ignored or abandoned outside. This is the beginning of Easter bunny meme season. Some are funny, but they make a point.

Please share these Easter memes so your non-bunny friends will understand the responsibility they assume with a rabbit:
- they are indoor pets that require special care and diet
- they may not be kid friendly
- rabbits are not starter pets
- bunnies can live for 10 years or more.

More Bunny Advocacy memes can be found here. Easter memes are scattered throughout the page. Thank you.

Why you shouldn't purchase a rabbit as an Easter prop

Rabbits should not be purchased as props because:
1. Rabbits are a wonderful but complex pet requiring special care and diet (their diet is 80+% hay, not carrots or pet store junk).
2. Rabbits don’t like to be handled until they get to know their human (and that can take a while). The “used as a prop” process may scare them.
3. Rabbits are not a pet for children. A child may squeeze a rabbit’s delicate skeletal system or drop them from a height resulting in serious injury or death.
4. Rabbits are not starter pets. They are an indoor pet.
5. After the pictures are done, the rabbit may be ignored, mistreated or let go “in the wild”. Domestic pet rabbits do not have the survival skills of their cousins born in the wild. Releasing a rabbit is most often a tortuous death sentence from starvation, predators or parasites.

(It was a 150 word limit for this challenge.)
