Fix your bunny!

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is sponsoring World Spay Day to encourage pet owners to spay and neuter their dogs and cats. And bunnies! You can read about pet overpopulation here.

In conjunction with the World Spay Day effort, HSUS has set up a Pet Pageant. And - no surprise here - most of the entrants are dogs and cats. Now, I have nothing against dogs and cats; I've been slaves to and loved many dogs and cats BB (BB = Before Bunnies). Kudos to anyone who adopts any shelter pet and provides it with love and proper care.

However, let's get bunnies included here. Fixing your bunnies has many benefits, for example:
1. They are easier to litter box train.
2. You may be doubling the life expectancy of the girls.
3. The key - you are helping to reduce pet overpopulation. There are already not enough homes for all these wonderful animals.

It is so important that HRS spays and neuters all its rescues; when adopting rescues out to a home that already owns a bunny, HRS wants that bunny to have been likewise fixed.

Well, a blogging bunny has entered the contest, for which voting is open until March 15th, 2013.
Vote for the handsome British Bun, Sir Speedy, here.
(in the main pageant category)
So, to summarize the take-aways here:
1. Adopt a rescue pet.
2. Spay or neuter your pets.
3. Vote for Speedy and help raise consciousness about bunnies as adoptable rescues.
